Islamabad, Feb 6: A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Turkey and Syria early on Monday, killing hundreds of people as they slept, levelling buildings and sending tremors that were felt as far away as the island of Cyprus, Egypt and Iraq. One of the largest quakes to strike Turkey in a century wiped out entire sections of major cities in a region filled with millions of people who have fled the civil war in Syria and other conflicts. The quake struck at 04:17 am local time (0117 GMT) at a depth of about 17.9 kilometres (11 miles) near the Turkish city of Gaziantep, which is home to around two million people, the US Geological Survey said. In their separate messages, both expressed grief and conveyed sympathies to the governments and people of the quake-hit Turkiye and Syria. ISLAMABAD, Feb 2: Sindh government has introduced the Pakistan first ever women-only bus service in Karachi on February 1 with the slogan of Women Empowerment. The Pink bus service is a much-needed solution to the problems associated with safe and secure transportation for women in Karachi city. The Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon had announced that Pink Bus Service would remain free for 7 days, i.e. Till February 7. As per detail, initially eight buses have been introduced so far that would operate on a single route from Model Colony, Malir to Tower via Sharea Faisal from 7am till 10pm.  During peak hours in the morning and evening, the dedicated bus service will operate every 20 minutes and every hour during the rest of the day.  It will offer best facilitate to the college and university students and office-going women, as the fare is only Rs50.  The initiative is commendable, and will bring confidence within the working women with ease in traveling. Kohat (APP) - 21 more bodies that drowned in Kohat's Tanda Dam have been recovered. The number of students killed in the boat capsizing accident has reached 51. According to the detail, the search and rescue operation to find the children who drowned in the lake after the boat overturned in Kohat's Tanda Dam on Sunday continues for the third day. During the operation today, the bodies of 21 students who drowned in the lake were recovered and shifted to the hospital. After the bodies recovered today, the number of people killed in the boat capsizing incident has reached fifty-one. Rescue boats and expert divers are taking part in the search and rescue operation at Tanda Dam. Deputy Commissioner Kohat said that five students have been rescued during the operation. All resources are being used to find the missing children.
