Ban on import of luxury items in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 19:Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said his decision to ban the import of luxury items will save the country’s precious foreign exchange.

The prime minister in a tweet posted on his social media account said that as they would practice austerity, the financially stronger people must lead in the effort so that the less privileged among them did not have to bear the burden inflicted on them by the PTI government.

The government has banned the import of following items:

1. Mobile Phones

2. Home Appliances

3. Fruits and Dry Fruits (except from Afghanistan)

4. Crockery

5. Private Weapons & Ammunition

6. Shoes

7. Chandeliers & Lighting (except Energy Savers)

8. Headphones & Loudspeakers

9. Sauces, Ketchup etc.

10. Doors and Window Frames

11. Travelling Bags and Suitcases

12. Sanitary ware

13. Fish & Frozen Fish

14. Carpets (except from Afghanistan)

15. Preserved Fruits

16. Tissue Paper

17. Furniture

18. Shampoos

19. Automobiles

20. Confectionary

21. Luxury mattresses & sleeping bags

22. Jams & Jelly

23. Cornflakes

24. Bathroom ware / Toiletries

25. Heaters / Blowers

26. Sunglasses

27. Kitchen ware

Payments to new beneficiaries of `Sasta Petrol Scheme’ will begin from July 4

ISLAMABAD, Jun 30:The process of payments of Rs. 2000 for the new eligible beneficiaries applied for the “Sasta Petrol/Sasta Diesel” scheme of the government through sending SMS to the 786 will start from July 4. According to the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Pakistan, the eligible beneficiaries of the scheme who registered through 786 will start getting their payment of Rs. 2000. However, the existing beneficiaries of Benazir Kafalat program are already receiving their payments of Rs. 2000 from the designated banks. Till Wednesday, out of eight million registered families of Benazir Kafalat program, Rs. 6.67 billion has been disbursed among 3,339,000 families. After receiving payment message from BISP, the registered families of Benazir Kafalat Program belonged from Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan may receive their payments from biometric ATMs of Habib Bank and those from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir from Bank Alfalah. Rawalpindi Police crackdown against kite sellers and flyers

Feb 5, Rawalpindi district police has started the crackdown against kite flying ban violators including sellers and flyers in the city. During recent crackdown police has arrested 58 violators and recovered over 13000 kites and 200 kites flying string rolls. Police have conducted frequent raids and operations in this context around the city. According to a police spokesman, the CPO had directed the officers concerned to utilize all available resources to arrest the kite flying ban violators, kite sellers and those involved in aerial firing. The CPO also appreciated police performance and directed to continue raids to take strict action against sellers and flyers.
